It's easy to get caught up in the frenzy of exam week—reading every spare minute, pulling all-nighters, and even dreaming about exam answers during the rare moments of rest.
I used to be in that position, feeling like I had been hit by a London Omnibus after every examination period in Law School. When I finally slowed down, I'd often fall sick.
However, when I started the NCA process, I decided to revise my exam period routine. Regardless of your study work ethics and level of preparation, it's easy to fall back into old stress habits during exam week.
To help you prepare for the upcoming week, here are my top tips for staying cool, calm, and collected while acing the NCAs without the drama. Remember, self-care is paramount. Your brain holds all the key information you need to pass these exams, and it's crucial to take care of it. Ensure you get enough sleep and eat well to maintain your brain's alertness and logical reasoning capacity. A balanced diet and proteins can greatly aid your brain's functioning. Make time for a hearty breakfast before the exam day and allow yourself some rest between exams. These exams are open-book, so as long as your materials are organized, you'll be well-prepared.
Control your environment and surround yourself with positive influences. Minimize distractions and sources of stress during exam week. Consider taking a break from your study group if it becomes more of an anxiety-inducing gathering than a productive group. Keep your phone on night mode and check it only when you choose, reducing unnecessary stress from notifications. Inform friends and family that you'll be focusing on the NCAs during the week, and reconnect with them after exams.
Pack your bag the night before the exam day to avoid last-minute panic and ensure you have all the necessary materials. Arrive at the exam location with plenty of time to spare, striking a balance between being early and avoiding rushing. Find a quiet spot nearby to do some light review or engage in activities that help you relax.
Lastly, be confident in your abilities, and don't let anxiety overwhelm you. Engage in positive self-talk and believe in your preparation. You've worked hard, and now it's time to go out there and crush the NCAs! Good luck and best wishes for the week ahead. You've got this!
