Greetings, NCA candidates! Continuing with our NCA graduate interview series, we have Anthony Durante, who recently joined the Ontario Bar and now works as an associate lawyer in the greater Toronto area. Anthony is also an active blogger on Business, Construction, Family, and Personal Injury Law, and he has generously agreed to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with all of you.
Let's delve into his journey:
- Anthony attended City University of London Law School in London, England, where he completed the 2-year advanced LL.B program.
- He was assigned the five core NCA exams.
- Anthony completed the NCA process by enrolling in the 1-Year Canadian Common Law LLM program at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. This path took him approximately 12 months to fulfill all his NCA requirements.
- He chose this route for the structured classes, which were led by knowledgeable professors. The schedule allowed him to manage his time effectively while working part-time.
- The LLM program provided Anthony with in-depth knowledge, as each course spanned a few months, enabling him to delve deeper into the topics. Engaging in presentations and essays enriched his learning experience beyond the NCA requirements.
- The program's diversity, with students from different legal backgrounds, brought diverse perspectives to the discussions and enriched the learning environment.
Currently, Anthony works as an Associate Lawyer at a small law firm in Vaughan, Ontario, specializing in Family Law, Construction Law, Civil Law, and Estates Law.
Reflecting on the NCA process, Anthony emphasizes the importance of focusing on your individual assessment and not comparing yourself to others. The NCA requirements vary case by case, so concentrate on meeting the expectations set for you, and the process will conclude smoothly.
In hindsight, Anthony wouldn't change anything about his journey. Studying abroad while completing his accreditation in Canada provided a unique balance and perspective on the law.
That concludes our interview for this week! Stay tuned for more insights from recent NCA graduates in the upcoming interviews.
