Congratulations to the newly nominated Justice Mahmud Jamal, who has been appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada. The announcement of his nomination was made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on June 17, 2021.
Justice Jamal's background is truly international. He was born in Kenya, raised in England, and completed his high school education in Edmonton. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, as well as Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Civil Law degrees from McGill University's Faculty of Law. Additionally, he pursued a Master of Laws at Yale Law School as a Fulbright Scholar. Notably, he also served as a law clerk to both Justice Melvin Rothman of the Quebec Court of Appeal and Justice Charles Gonthier of the Supreme Court of Canada.
