Planning for the NCAs in 2022

Attention all recent NCA and LL.B graduates (or soon-to-be-graduates)! First and foremost, congratulations on completing (or nearly completing) your legal studies! You've put in a lot of effort to reach this milestone, and you deserve a well-earned pat on the back, maybe even a short vacation!

Now, let's get to the important news: there's both good and challenging news for you.

While you've worked hard for the past few months and years, your journey is not quite over yet. But, you probably already knew that, right?

If you're studying law abroad, it's understandable that you might feel slightly disconnected from the recruitment frenzy happening here in Canada. Unlike Canadian law students, who have the guidance of their school's careers center to help them navigate articling deadlines and other qualification requirements, International Law Students and NCA Candidates often have to figure things out on their own. And trust me, there's quite a bit to figure out!

Now, here comes the good news! To ensure that you don't miss any crucial dates and events, I've compiled a highly comprehensive calendar that covers all the deadlines and activities you need to prepare for from February 2022 until January 2023! This calendar will guide you through various essential tasks, such as polishing your resume, getting ready for Summer Associate/Articling Applications, completing NCA registration, applying for clerkships, and meeting Law Society Licensing deadlines.

While many of the dates provided are specific to the Ontario recruitment scene, most major firms across Canada follow similar timelines. In short, this calendar serves as a valuable starting point for anyone looking to enter the Canadian legal market. However, I recommend verifying the dates with your local law society as well, just to be on the safe side!

Best of luck on your journey ahead!
